Jamie Smith

headshotJAMIE[4081]_edited.jpg

Jamie B Smith is a white, cis, queer newly middle class man.

Jamie B Smith is a nurse, lecturer, and senior research associate working clinically in the NHS in the UK while also continuing his research at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He moves between practice and academia, bridging Berlin, Edinburgh, and now the UK healthcare landscape. Jamie’s work promotes diversity, inclusion, and social justice, always embedded deeply in practice.

His PhD at the University of Edinburgh examined nursing, institutional power, and critical posthuman theory. Jamie originally studied psychology as an undergraduate before training as a nurse and earning Master’s degrees in both Nursing and Sociology. He employs a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative, qualitative, and post-qualitative methods, and takes a critical posthuman perspective to address complex issues in healthcare research and practice.

Organised and managed the process of creating and manufacturing a nursing tartan to raise money for nursing charities. All profits from this initiative go towards funding nursing scholarships, split equally between nurses in the UK and nurses in the global south. With a turnover of over £100,000, the project has already funded scholarships for nurses to pursue further education.
